The Meerkat is Not a Cat

Meerkat is merely a name
For an animal
Who is not a real cat at all
But belongs to the mongoose family
And he's very small

He lives in Africa
And likes to eat insects
And he's so bright
He figured out how to bite
Ther sting off a scorpion
So that he can have it forbreakfast

Did you know that in meerkat society
There are rotating sentries
Who guard the colony
Against enemies
Standing on their hind legs
Watching the ground and the sky
So that the babies may play safely

Themeerkat is very dear to me
Because of his special personality
And we're happy that he
And his family too
Are living at the zoo
